I have alot of firearms including a real PSG1, G3, FAL, Dragunov SVD, Galil, AR10, and a host of other weaponry this is still my favorite firearm to this current moment. The fact it is a loose tolerance military firearm it is very forgiving and the parts are available and I run my guns hard. Really though if you have the chance to get a USGI version it is worth it. Regardless it is one of the best firearms I have had minus its various quirks and the best rabbit gun if you can stand the constant fix it if you have the Iver Johnson/Universal versions. And the Iver Johnson is holding up fine, however I don't shoot it anymore afraid it will have the fate of the universal. The universal forget it, I broke it five years ago and still don't have parts to fix it. My inland I have had to fix once with a broken extractor, as far as the auto ordinance I am going three years strong using Remington UMC ammunition. The Iver Johnson/ Universal Parts are nearly impossible to get these days. Thankfully these are readily available if you have a problem. Unfortunately like M1 Carbines in general the extractor/firing pin/firing pin spring assembly is the weak point in the firearm. The rifle takes a ton of USGI parts and is very forgiving. Regardless the USGI WWII spec is probably going to be the best. The current auto ordinance is the second best period. I saw one at Canyon Sports a few months ago and it had excellent wood also, so I'd say they're doing a pretty good job with the stocks.īeing the owner of a USGI Inland, Auto Ordinance, Universal, and Iver Johnson units I have seen it all.
The Auto Ordnance follows mostly the early version.Īnd damn - that is nice looking wood on the new one in Skatin's post. There were some other minor differences such as a push button as opposed to a flip type safety. That thing on the bottom of the barrel is a bayonet lug.Įarly WWII manufacture carbines had no bayonet lug and a small "L" type flip rear sight as opposed to later manufacture and rebuilds. $900 is a little too much, especially if the ammo is around $20 for 50 rounds. I'll probably look around and see if I can find one for less money. What is that thing on the bottom of the barrel in the first pic? Bayonet lug? The one I saw did not have it. Probably more like the one in the first image. I recall it was a bit dark, and felt really smooth. I'm not sure if it was a walnut stock, as I do not know the differences of wood types or stocks and whatnot. So, its probably a bit over priced and might be picky with ammo that costs a lot.
